A protester was detained during Abria Pregnancy Resources’ annual “Life is Wonderful 10K, 5K Walk and Fun Run” on Saturday, video shows.

The protester allegedly attempted to grab the microphone of one of the organizers who was speaking prior to the event beginning. The man, who was apparently yelling profanities, can be seen in a video being escorted away by two police officers.

“This joyful gathering is a testament to the sacredness of every life and the strength of motherhood, bringing together community members in support of our mission to provide life-affirming medical care, material resources, and compassionate support to women and couples facing unexpected pregnancies,” Abria’s event listing explains.

The annual event draws families and individuals from across the Twin Cities to raise money and awareness for Abria Pregnancy Resources.

The protest of the Abria event was organized by the Minnesota Abortion Action Committee (MNAAC), which announced at the protest that its primary purpose is to target crisis pregnancy centers. “Anti-abortion groups have no place in our city parks! Join us on May 10th to say: Minneapolis is a pro-choice town!” a social media post advertising the protest said. “They don’t belong in our parks,” said an event page for the protest.

Protesters gathered near the Lyndale Rose Garden in Minneapolis, along the route that the runners and walkers would take. Several women appeared in Handmaid’s Tale costumes and many held signs.

MNAAC later posted photos on social media of a protester shouting at runners as they passed by and another of a man holding a “be gay fund abortion” sign as he ran alongside the participants.

“Of course we had to disrupt the start of yesterday’s race! If anti-abortion groups like Abria want to fundraise in our city parks, they can expect to get no peace,” the organization said in another post.

One woman held a sign that read, “Happy pro-abortion Mother’s Day.” Another sign read, “Abria ate my son.”

A man holding a megaphone was walking along the sidewalk, yelling, “Abria has blood on their hands” and other things at people walking by.

Once the run began, the group of protesters started chanting things like “Fight! Fight! Fight! Abortion is a human right.” One of the leaders of the protest spoke, saying that they were advocating for abortion to be “safe, legal, and accessible.”

MNAAC has protested at several of the crisis pregnancy centers in Minnesota and also recently had its operatives flood crisis pregnancy centers with fake reviews, calling the event a “Crisis Pregnancy Center Review-a-Thon”, an email obtained by Alpha News states.
