Marvel Studios will finally incorporate an onscreen LGBTQ+ kiss in this year’s cosmic blockbuster The Eternals.

Starring acting heavyweights such as Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden and Kit Harington, this movie directed by Chloé Zhao is set to break new ground through the characters of Phastos and his as-of-yet unnamed husband.

They’re being played by Joker‘s Brian Tyree Henry and Jack Ryan regular Haaz Sleiman.

Chatting to NewNowNext, Sleiman revealed all on kissing his co-star: “It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss. Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be.

“Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point.

“We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious; we forget to connect on that human part,” he added.

The Lebanese-American actor also confirmed that his and Henry’s characters will have a child in the movie.

This will be the biggest case of LGBTQ+ representation yet from Marvel, who made a very small step during last year’s record-breaking Avengers: Endgame.

Played by co-director Joe Russo, a support group attendee revealed he’d finally managed to go on a same-sex date.

The Eternals will be released on November 6, 2020.
