The Brew: Wins, Losses, Surrenders

Happy Friday!

Let’s do a Brew, shall we?

Donald Trump Arraigned in Fulton County

Former President Donald Trump was arraigned during prime time last night in Fulton County for his efforts to question the Georgia results in the 2020 Election. You might have heard about it.

What a bizarre time. In 2016, Trump said he could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and get away with it. In 2023, anybody else could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and get away with it. But Trump can’t even shout “I was robbed” without getting arrested.

After co-defendant Kenneth Chesebro demanded a speedy trial, Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis announced Thursday she’s seeking an October 23 trial start for all 19 defendants. That is, less than two months from now. Trump’s lawyers have already filed papers objecting to the speedy trial date and have asked to sever his case from Cheseboro’s.

If granted, legal analysts note, Trump’s lawyers will get to watch the Cheseboro trial, and learn the prosecutors’ moves.

Trump-Carlson Most Watched Interview in History

Meanwhile, Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson on X has now flown past 208 million views as of Thursday afternoon. Here it is, if you haven’t seen it, or just want to watch the number climb when you hit refresh.

Apparently, the Trump-Carlson chat is now the most watched interview in history, topping Oprah Winfrey’s interview of Michael Jackson. According to DC Enquirer, that 1993 interview reached 62.3 million people. And Trump doesn’t even Moonwalk. (Oprah’s 30 year record was broken earlier this year when Tucker interviewed Andrew Tate. That drew 107 million. But that’s not nearly as fun to talk about as the King of Pop.)

With Trump holding 30, 40, 50% lead in the primary, a base that is brushing off the indictments, and a hold so tight on the political imagination hundreds of millions watch him do a simple interview, is the primary over? In our public chat about the debate yesterday, Bunni Pounds pointed out that the Iowa caucus is 20 weeks away. Seems so soon. But as someone who’s run campaigns and run for office herself, “that’s an eternity.”

If you don’t think anything can happen to shake the race in 20 weeks, you haven’t been watching the last seven years.

If you missed our “Stream Talks Debate,” here it is. Thanks so much to John, Gayle and the great Bunni Pounds. The guy in the bottom left? That’s 3 ½ hours sleep talking.

Jen Psaki: “No One Supports Abortion Up to Birth” … Let’s Go to the Tape

Former White House Jen Psaki took umbrage at a GOP claim during the debate that Democrats are for abortion up to birth. Gov. Ron DeSantis during an exchange with Nikki Haley said, “What the Democrats are trying to do on this issue is wrong – to allow abortion all the way up to the moment of birth.”

To which Psaki tweeted:

Which brought a whole heap of evidence to the contrary down on Psaki, including this 5 minute compilation.

Roger Servino reminded Jen that 210 Democrats in Congress voted against a bill that would protect babies born alive who survive abortions.

And look, here’s Jen herself.

Victory: Georgia School District to Remove Pornographic Books After Being Alerted by Libs of Tiktok

Last Saturday, Libs of TikTok wrote the Cobb County School District to notify them of two pornographic books currently found in school libraries there and to seek information from the district for an article she was writing. Well, it worked.

Just two days later, the district’s Chief Strategy and Accountability officer John Floresta responded thanking Libs of TikTok for alerting them to the books. “Any book, video, or lesson which contains sexually-explicit content is entirely unacceptable and have no place in our schools, period. Over the weekend, we have removed both books from all of our schools.”  Floresta also promised staff would be held accountable.

Loss (For Now): Federal Court Denies Montgomery County, MD Parents the Right to Opt-Out of Gender and Sexual Indoctrination

Earlier this month we told you about a multi-faith group of parents who took Montgomery County’s Board of Education to court after the board eliminated the right of parents to opt out of radical gender ideology and sexualization lessons.

Yesterday, a Federal judge denied the parents quest for a preliminary injunction.

Eric Baxter of Becket Law, which represents the parents provides the details on his X account.

Becket says it will appeal the decision.

Bud Light Officially No Longer #1 Beer

After 22 years at the top, Bud Light has officially lost its title as best-selling beer brand in the United States. Fox Business reports that as of August 12, Modelo owns 8.34% of dollars spent at beer stores this year while Bud Light drops to 8.28% on an annual basis.

Modelo began outselling Bud Light in May in the wake of Bud Light’s sales collapse after it teamed with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
