If you want to stop attracting what you don’t need, maybe turn off the magnet that attracts it. That’s the logic of President Donald Trump sticking to enforcing our labor and immigration laws with employers who operate sweatshop factories, restaurants, and farms. It applies even more urgently to healthcare.

If you’ve had the bad luck to visit a hospital emergency room recently, you’ll have noticed it’s full of foreigners. Many are here illegally. But thanks to Medicaid programs aimed at offering free health care to whoever shows up here, invited or not, our hospitals are crammed with people who never paid into the system. That’s why paying customers with insurance from their employers get charged $20 for a cotton swab and $50 for some gauze, racking up thousands of dollars (payable to their deductibles) for routine procedures.

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” has provisions aimed at cutting off money for this practice in states that force hospitals to treat non-life-threatening conditions, no questions asked. And the Senate parliamentarian, Harry Reid appointee Elizabeth MacDonough, has tossed out those key parts of the bill — with GOP Senate leaders hiding behind her skirts, pretending to be helpless before the decision of this unelected Deep State staffer.

Trump isn’t happy, and he’s going nuclear now to force senators to do their jobs, The Hill reports:

President Trump urged Senate Republicans on Sunday to overrule the chamber’s parliamentarian in order to pass key parts of his sweeping domestic policy bill.

In a Sunday post on Truth Social, the president backed a call from Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and other GOP hard-liners to ignore rulings from Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough.

“Great Congressman Greg Steube is 100% correct. An unelected Senate Staffer (Parliamentarian), should not be allowed to hurt the Republicans Bill. Wants many fantastic things out. NO! DJT,” Trump wrote. …

“How is it that an unelected swamp bureaucrat, who was appointed by [former Sen.] Harry Reid [D-Nev.] over a decade ago, gets to decide what can and cannot go in President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill?” Steube wrote on the social platform X.

“The Senate Parliamentarian is not elected. She is not accountable to the American people. Yet she holds veto power over legislation supported by millions of voters,” he added.

This is how the permanent government protects itself: by pretending that its power is sacred and untouchable, suffused in celestial radiance behind the flaming sword of The Law — when in fact hacks are just working a scam that they’ve had decades to fully master.

And the hacks have won this round:

CNN Helps Illegals Evade, Harass, and Threaten ICE Agents

In case you’re not convinced that our oligarchy is using every means at its disposal to thwart the people’s will, check out the latest offering from impartial journalism outlet CNN: It’s letting illegal immigrants know how to download an app that doxes ICE agents and puts them in danger. (Remember that many illegals come into our country via collusion with cartels, and unknown numbers belong to those criminal outfits.)

Unreal. CNN is now promoting an app which tracks the movement of ICE agents to warn illegals.

And lest you fall for the line, “It’s news — they’re just reporting it,” try this thought experiment: Imagine if white supremacists invented an app that tracked black teenagers’ movements through major cities, allegedly as a crime-fighting measure. Would CNN offer a chipper report on how you can find such an app and use it?

What’s Wrong with Having Illegal Immigrants Who Can’t Speak English Driving Massive Trucks on Our Roads?

In case the answer to that isn’t obvious, here’s a hint:

Was this driver licensed to operate a huge commercial vehicle? Is he insured? Police couldn’t ask him without finding a translator. That’s how life in America’s supposed to work, isn’t it? So many parts of our lives are thrown into chaos by the absence of a real, enforceable border — just as things at your home might get kind of dicey if the Democrats, the Chamber of Commerce, and Catholic Charities came along and took all your doors off their hinges.

New York City’s Muslim Communist Mayoral Frontrunner Was Born with a Silver Spoon

Just like Kamala Harris, who posed as a child of poverty although she went to French-language boarding schools, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed to be from the Bronx (instead of snooty Westchester), the far-leftist, anti-Western activist Zohran Kwame Mamdani likes to pose as a victim of a “racist” America. Author Jeremy Carl, who documented anti-white hate in his book The Unprotected Class, offers the real story of privileged, pampered Zohran:

Despite the fact that they were not born or raised in America, Zohran Mamdani’s mother was welcomed as a student at Harvard and his father is a professor at Columbia, two of the most elite American institutions. His father originally came to the U.S. as a sponsored college… pic.twitter.com/LrNLkdzggJ

Trump Administration Charges Harvard with Illegal Antisemitic Acts

Speaking of loathsome, entitled elites, let’s consider Harvard. The Trump administration cannily focused attention on the landmark university’s violations of the Civil Rights Act and enabling racial hatred on campus, cutting federal contracts. Predictably, Harvard sued not just the administration, but every official in the relevant government agencies — who don’t have deep pockets stuffed with 53.2 billion tax-exempt dollars. The Harvard Crimson reported, between gritted teeth:

The Trump administration formally accused Harvard on Monday of violating federal civil rights law by failing to protect Jewish and Israeli students from harassment, ratcheting up its allegations as University officials return to talks with the White House.

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights accused Harvard of acting with “deliberate indifference” toward anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli discrimination in a notice of violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act sent Monday morning.

“Fool around, find out” seems to be the new corollary to Make America Great Again.

Where In the World Was John Zmirak?

As Stream readers know, last month we staged a weeks-long contest asking you all to guess my location while I followed Eric Metaxas in the footsteps of St. Paul in the Aegean (plus Boston, then London). We’re happy to announce that the grand prize winner is Josiah Moreland, who correctly guessed the location in all 13 pictures. He will be receiving a Stream mug, plus a gift basket of five of Zmirak’s past books on faith, culture, and politics, including The Bad Catholic’s Guide to the Seven Deadly Sins and his latest title, No Second Amendment, No First.

Second prize goes to Angelica Lorenzo, who will get a mug and three books, and third prize to Robert Wise, who’ll win a mug and two books. Others with lower totals will get Stream mugs and one book.

Wondering what the trip was like? Watch Eric Metaxas recount it with his long-time pal Albin Sadar on his show:

Along The Stream …

Later this morning, God, Can We Chat? author Niki Hardy joins Life Today to talk about how to move forward when circumstances create a crisis of faith.

Who’s killing Syria’s Christians and why? What can the U.S. do about it? Find out in this thoughtful analysis.

John Zmirak is a senior editor at The Stream and author or coauthor of 14 books, including The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Catholicism. His newest book is No Second Amendment, No First.
