Thousands of Illegal Immigrants Coming From Terrorist Breeding Grounds

Welcome to the first serving of The Affogato, where just like the drink, we keep things both bold and sweet.

Our first story begins on a somber note as new details emerge from a violent attack that took place in Boulder, Colorado on Sunday.

Boulder Attack

Around 1:30 p.m., Mohamed Sabry Soliman — a 45-year-old man living in Colorado’s El Paso County — was arrested after trying to set several people on fire, using a makeshift flamethrower.

Eight victims — four women and four men between the ages of 52 and 88, including a Holocaust survivor — remained hospitalized, but alive Monday. All are members of Run for Their Lives, a group advocating for the release of hostages held by Hamas that has been holding weekly demonstration walks at the Pearl Street Mall near the Boulder courthouse. Jean Unger, another group member, recalls hearing Soliman shouting “Free Palestine,” but didn’t pay immediate attention since the group usually encounters two dozen or so protestors during their walks.

When she did turn around, Unger told The Wall Street Journal, “Next thing I saw was big flames, from behind me. There was a woman on fire, and people rushing to try and help her, and other people had flames on their legs.”

Yesterday, U.S. Department at Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin shared that Soliman is in the U.S. illegally on an expired work permit granted by the Biden administration. He entered the country in August 2022 and filed for asylum that September.

Soliman was arrested at the scene, charged with first-degree murder, and is being held on $10 million bail. The FBI is investigating the incident as a targeted terrorist attack after the fatal shooting of Israeli Embassy staffers Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim on May 21 in Washington, D.C. This is the second violent assault on the U.S. Jewish community within two weeks, and shows the heightened tensions over the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Recently, The Stream published a very timely article by contributor Amine Ayoub that shows how important the Christian response to these hateful acts really is:

In the weeks and months ahead, the choices individuals and communities make will determine whether this tragedy deepens existing divisions or becomes a catalyst for renewed commitment to justice and compassion. Small acts such as listening, speaking, sharing, learning, and supporting can collectively shape the response to violence and hatred. Christians are called to be peacemakers, to stand as witnesses to the light of God’s love even amid darkness. In doing so, they bear witness to a faith that refuses to let evil have the last word.

Conservative Poland

Early yesterday morning, Poland tabulated the votes in its presidential runoff election: Karol Nawrocki, a 42-year-old political newcomer and conservative historian backed by Poland’s Law and Justice Party, narrowly won with 50.89% of the vote over Warsaw’s liberal mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who secured just 49.11%. This election proved to be just as a tight as the first round on May 18, which highlights Poland’s deep political divide.

Nawrocki campaigned on traditional Christian values, tighter border controls, increased defense spending, and skepticism about the European Union while opposing Ukraine joining NATO and liberal policies concerning abortion and LGBT issues. Trzaskowski, on the other hand, is a pro-EU ally of Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk who advocated for fewer abortion restrictions, judicial independence and promoted more alliances with Europe, translation, globalist Europe. According to The Epoch Times, Nawrocki’s supporters see that as “relinquish control of critical Polish affairs to other European nations such as Germany and France.”

Nawrocki, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, is expected to challenge Tusk’s reform agenda through presidential veto power and “stop him in whichever way he can to cause a gridlock until the the PM elections in 2027,” per MSNBC. As a key country in both NATO and the EU, Nawrocki plans to work with the U.S. to bolster Polish military ties and use the national sovereignty approach. This clashes with Europe’s open migration pact, thus potentially straining relations with more progressive countries within the EU.

Martina Navratilova Defends Girls

Women’s tennis legend Martina Navratilova is speaking up to defend two high school girls in Oregon who protested the fact that a transgender athlete was allowed to compete against them at the Oregon state track championships on Saturday.

Sherwood High School’s Reese Eckard and Tigard High School’s Alexa Anderson, who finished the high jump in fourth and third place respectively, stepped down from the podium when the transgender athlete, who finished in fifth place, stepped onto it. The two girls were then confronted by a track official, who forced them to go sit on the sidelines.

Two girls who had to compete against a boy at the Oregon high jump state championships refused to step on the podium in protest.

They were punished and sent to the sidelines.

On Monday, Navratilova — who has been in a marital relationship with a woman named Julia Lemigova for 10 years — decried the action.

“Women and girls are punished no matter what they do in this misogynistic world,” she tweeted, later adding, “Feminists never asked for this. At least not the great majority of us… never.”

Like British author J.K. Rowling, Navratilova has pushed back against the transgender movement, particularly where Title IX is concerned. She has previously voiced her support for legislation that would help protect it, and openly criticized Democrat politicians for failing to do the same.

What are the Dems willing to give up for men who identify as trans?
Abortion –
The Constitution –
Rule of law
That’s just for starters…

This just goes to show that one needn’t be heterosexual, Republican, or anything else to see the truth of what’s going on and stand up for girls. All it takes is common sense and a backbone.

Where in the World Is John Zmirak?

For the next two weeks, Stream Senior Editor John Zmirak will be sending us photos from his travels (as long as his internet connection holds out!), and we’re going to ask you to guess the location. At the end of the two weeks, the person who has the most correct (or close to correct!) guesses will get a gift from us.

This is your first clue: Today, he’s traveling by plane and are only two airports close enough to his home in Texas to fly out of.

Do you think you know where he is? Send your guesses to us at ContactUs@Stream.org.

Along The Stream…

In case you missed it, we recently shared Dr. Simone Gold’s conversation with pediatrician Dr. Paul Thomas to learn “The Truth About Pediatric Vaccines.”

Coming up later this morning, Jules Gomes brings us more great reporting from the Vatican with “Pope Leo XIV Builds Bridges with Anabaptists, Historically Persecuted by Catholics.”

Gayle McQueary is The Stream’s social media specialist. She has a background in production and is a scary judge of pairing good ice cream with strong espresso.
