Are you ready for your kids to get the COVID-19 vaccine?

If you live in Southern California, you may have to be.

As reported by The Los Angeles Times, kiddos in the LA Unified School District will be forced to take the immunity activator before returning to the classroom.

According to Superintendent Austin Beutner Monday, once the series of shots is available to youngsters, they’ll be necessarily needled if they wanna partake in the age-old tradition of in-person instruction.

Not that Beutner favors a shutdown: He doesn’t think campuses should remain clamped ’til the vaccine’s ready to go for young skulls full o’ mush.

Per The Daily Caller, “Beutner said that the state should develop a set of standards to reopen and then require campuses to open once those standards are met, according to the report.”

To Austin, the vaccine requirement is a non-issue — it’s the same as mandating preventative injections against the measles or the mumps.

He characterized the requirement as the best way of keeping schools safe.

And when will that all go down?

As stated by the Times, the plan would see all on-campus students vaccinated “by this time next year.”

The Associated Press observes Pfizer and BioNTech’s formula’s been okay’d for people 16 and above.

Studies are underway on the safety of the shot for those as young as 12.

If cleared, the FDA would still have to approve its use.

The Caller relays that “Moderna has also begun testing people between the ages of 12-17 as of December and will track them for a year, according to the AP.”

As you’re no doubt aware, children have a very high survival rate where the virus is concerned.

In fact, the percentage has to be written out to the thousandth:

Those stats are derived from the CDC’s “Current Best Estimate” for age groups’ “Infection Fatality Ratio,” which is laid out thusly:

0-19 years: 0.00003
20-49 years: 0.0002
50-69 years: 0.005
70+ years: 0.054

Of course, a sick child can still transmit the virus to someone most dangerously vulnerable.

More from TDC:

At least 1.6 million children have been infected with the virus, with 8,000 having been hospitalized, according to Dr. Robert Frenck, the lead researcher for Pfizer’s study in kids, according to the AP.

Whatever your take on a medication hurried to market due to special circumstance, the vaccine certainly makes sense for some.

As I covered Monday, it did recently for Mary Dentler of New Hampshire.

She’s about to turn 108:

And who knows — she might wanna one day get her doctorate.

If so, the secured schoolkid’s ready to go.
